Google searches to favour mobile-friendly websites
On April 21st this year, Google started giving higher rankings to websites built both for mobiles and desktops. SO... What does this mean for you? Given that Google has even come out and said this change will have a "significant impact in our search results", you need to think about whether or not your website is mobile responsive and if not...well, now is the time to look into it!
What is the point of having a website that is not mobile responsive? The last couple of years have seen a dramatic increase in the number of consumers using smartphones in Australia. The increased popularity of smartphones has also seen a spike in consumers using these devices for accessing websites and performing web searches. A 2010 Australian based Nielsen survey revealed that 73% of smartphone users had used their mobile phone for internet searches.- and that was 2010! So now that Google searches are favouring mobile -friendly websites, how much traffic will you lose with a website that doesn't work on mobile? How many potential customers will never find you? The more competitive the industry you are in, the harder it will be to rank well if you don't have a mobile-friendly site. As more people use mobile devices to access the internet, Google's algorithms have to adapt to these usage patterns - hence the new changes, and why now the time to ensure you is have a mobile or mobile responsive website.
Why a website is the best and most cost effective employee you will ever have!
One of the most common questions we are asked as web developers is "How much does a website cost?" Depending on potential customers' budget, initial thoughts of the cost in their head etc., some give the same facial expression I had given my mechanic when he told me the price on an engine overhaul!
But here's the thing to think about - a good quality website like a good engine in your car really is worth its weight in gold! It will take you places and is a reliable vehicle for your business. A website does so much more than a yellow pages ad! It's more than a sign for your business - in many ways it's the first shopfront customers' view - and we all know that first impressions count!
The truth is, that whatever the cost of your website - it is not the cost of the website you should be worried about - but the value of the website that should really resonate with you.
Here's how you need to think of your website, so you can see all it can do for you:
Think of your website as the best employee ever! This "employee" will work 24 hours a day 365 days a year, never sleep and never take time off! The primary purpose of this employee is to promote your business to your potential customers. This "employee" is available from anywhere in the world and can access multiple places and people simultaneously. Best of all, he/she does this for "free"! There are no expense accounts, no travel time and he/she can give all your customers the "one on one attention" - delivering the exact information every time!
Your "employee" will create greater audience and accessibility - which is so important in today's world. You need to be accessible on all platforms of technology so your business moves forward in this technological era, making it easier for customers in today's busy world.
Your "employee" is continually building your brand, and potential customers trust in your company, product or service. Online information, reviews, interactions, posts, blogs etc. can all create a positive impression with the customer, making a future sale more likely. A professional website can level the playing field between your business and your competitors. You have the capacity to reach a much larger audience and create a more lasting impression with this audience. Ensuring that your website is up to date, modern and functional is integral to the promotion of your brand and business.
Like anything in life - you get what you pay for - nothing is ever a real bargain in this world...but when you sit back for a moment and think about what a well-made, user friendly, creative and visually stunning website can do for the growth of your business - cost should take a back seat to quality and superior useability. First impressions count and quality is key in ensuring your website is functional and easy to navigate. Central Coast Web Design provide dynamic, innovative and creative web solutions.
